OUR MISSION
The mission of Friends of Cathedral Music is “to enrich the life of the Cathedral of St. John and the broader Albuquerque community through the promotion of music to the glory of God.” It does this by sponsoring concerts by regionally, nationally, and internationally renowned ensembles and solo artists in our beautiful sacred space, and by facilitating and helping to underwrite expenses related to the Cathedral choirs’ presentation of sacred choral masterworks which exceed the normal bounds of the Cathedral’s rich liturgical life. Occasionally Friends of Cathedral Music also commissions new musical settings of liturgical texts, thus enriching the sacred music repertoire available to the church at large, and contributing to the ongoing legacy of the Cathedral of St. John and the world we serve.

OUR 2023-2024 SEASON
This 30th anniversary season we will have the privilege of presenting artists from across this nation: the Chasqui Quartet; Camerata del Sol string ensemble with award-winning pianist Alejandro Barrañón; violinist Stephen Redfield leading the orchestra in a Lenten meditation of music by J. S. Bach with soloists Hayden Eberhart and Sarah Nickerson; and the 4th Annual Reuter Organ Festival, which includes acclaimed organists Stephen Tharp, Käthe Wright Kaufman, and Raúl Prieto Ramírez, along with professional vocal ensemble Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico. The season also includes our very own Cathedral Choir and Choristers along with the cathedral’s Assistant Organist, Edmund Connolly, and Director of Cathedral Music, Maxine Thévenot.
